Hola mi Gente!
We're going to start this thing off with a style post for two reasons: 1. why not? 2. I adore this shirt probably as much as I adore the shop it comes from.
This tee is from Jen Zeano Designs, one of the cutest Latinx owned online shops I've come across. Their styles are incredibly comfortable, the screen prints are hand made in house, and you can tell everything is filled with so much love. When I saw this shirt, I just HAD to have it.
"Morena" embodies parts of who I am that I didn't even realize until I saw it on this shirt. I know my skin isn't the darkest, but I have always been one of the darkest in my immediate family. I've always loved my brown skin with everything in me; I love how it gets this golden glow in the summer, I love the way it pops against white, I love that warm tones like yellow, orange, and red are reminiscent of fire on my skin. With everything going on in the world, I also wanted this shirt so it could be self-explanatory. The shirt speaks to the people in the back that decide to invalidate experiences by saying or embodying the phrase, "I don't see color." To me, if you don't see my color, you do not see me. Plain and simple. So...Morena, Morena, Morena porque soy Boricua y soy Morena and I will not be erased.
I chose to pair the top with my favorite bell bottoms and mauve platforms. The jeans are technically from Fashion Nova, but I actually thrifted them from an online shop called thredUP! My platforms are from the brand Cupid but bought during an outrageous sale on ZooShoo; the end price was about $10 and the shoes are incredibly comfortable so to me that's a win on all counts!
Peace and love to Infinity and Beyond.
