Wash Day: My Curly Hair Routine

Hola mi gente!

I've been getting a lot of questions about my hair care since making my "wash day" reel/TikTok so I wanted to write this for you and give you more details!

The first step that I like to start with is scrubbing my scalp with a Turmeric Hair Detox; the consistency is like jelly so it's super easy to handle! The detox is made to help rid your hair of product build-up and dandruff and in the winter months, it's been a lifesaver for my dry scalp. I prefer to put this on my hair while it's dry and let it set in for 15-20 minutes before I get in the shower so it can really do its job!

This next part depends on how dry I feel my hair is, if I want to give it some extra moisture retainment or just a nice deep conditioning, I'll put some Forbbiden Oil on my ends and let that sit for the same15-20 minutes as the detox in my roots plus another 5 or so minutes in the shower so the steam of the water can help the oil penetrate my curls more. The Forbidden Oil is honestly so versatile I use it for many things. Another of my favorite uses is a hot oil treatment from scalp to roots, it's so refreshing and even helps with hair strength and growth! I'll explain a different use later in the blog as well!

If my hair feels adequately moisturized I'll skip the step above and go straight to shampooing and conditioning my hair, which is what I did in my video! I've only been using Bounce Curl cleansers and stylers on my hair because they are 100% vegan, so I don't have to worry about what products I can purchase when shopping and they are very clean, meaning there are no unnecessary chemicals used! My favorite washing combination currently is the Pure Silk Moisturizing Shampoo and the Super Smooth Cream Conditioner. This combo is literally like magic for my hair. It leaves my curls feeling like silk, soft but so strong!

I use the shampoo and conditioner as you regularly would. The only trick I have to share, if you don't do this already, is to comb through your hair with a wide-tooth comb after applying the shampoo and conditioner! This helps to ensure that everything is evenly applied. I also put very little conditioner on roots to avoid quick buildup and weighing my roots down. Doing so, helps me get more volume once my hair is completely dry and I love big curls so this is a must for me!

If I'm just refreshing my hair for the week or want a wash that's not as time-consuming, I'll co-wash with this magic Hydra-Drench Cleansing Conditioner. If you don't know what co-washing is, it's basically washing your hair with a cleansing conditioner but it's not like those god-awful 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner things. A cleansing conditioner will give you a light wash so your scalp can feel refreshed but will also moisturize your hair!

Now on to styling! Remember when I mentioned the other use for the oil? Here it is! If after I wash my hair I want some extra moisture retention, I'll add a couple of drops of the oil with prayer hands to the sections of my hair. A little goes a long way so don't overdo it! I usually do this in the wintertime since the elements can be pretty harsh on my hair and make it dry pretty quickly.

Next comes the holy grail Light Creme Gel! I've been using this since I found it about three years ago. It never makes my hair crunchy, it always leaves it super light and the definition that I receive from it is amazing! I always put this on my hair with prayer hands and in sections, right out of the shower because it works best when your hair is soaking wet and again, a little goes a long way so don't go crazy. If your hair feels waxy or the gel cast won't break after your hair is completely dried, that means you used too much.

Once I'm done applying the gel, I'll go ahead and diffuse my curls until they're completely dry for maximum volume and I'll pick it! If you don't have a pick, I would recommend investing in one. The ones with the metal teeth create less frizz but the ones with the plastic teeth create more volume so choose whichever suits you best. I own both and choose whichever I'm feeling that day!

Here's my hair after a full wash day! I think I actually used my plastic toothed pick for these photos if you want a reference!

Eso es todo que lo tengo para ti hoy! I hope it helps some and if you have any questions, just let me know.

Until next time! Peace and love to Infinity and Beyond.
